The good old 1289 cc wedge head.....not worth the price I am afraid. A friend of mine in Surrey BC has one of these.

!!!!

some people have all the luck!

I'm going to go sulk now I honestly thought the cars were unobtainium money wise.. but apparently I missed one for less than 10k not far from here a few months ago.

Apaprenlty, most of the problem is finding them when they're for sale!

Cheers,

Andrew

The Spanish, Mexican and Brazilian ones are worth half (at best) of what the French ones are, on a good day! They were less carefully built and had low-shelf engines in them. That people have bid this one up to 20K US is a total shock.

Generally, I don't consider initial build quality when I'm looking at buying a ~40 year old car.. I just figure it's been fiddled with or going to need to be fiddled with anyways.

The engines, well that's something to note.. but again, you're likely going to have to build one anyways as most classic cars I look at in my price range are running but tired. Besides, aside from the costs, it's a good opportunity to build something with some snort and reliability

Maybe I'm jaded?

Other than that, as I've said before I'm new to the whole french car thing.. I remember when I was a kid seeing photos/dinky cars whatever of rally peugoets I guess.. and thinking they were wicked.. but other than that it's a whole new ball game for me. For instance, I'd say I only became aware of on an ongoing basis (rather than wow that's neet and forgetting) that A110s existed and that I think they're amazing for 6-8 years now.

It's quite possible that with the internet there's a much larger audience for these cars. When you're looking at 60+k for a decent american muscle car, what's 20k for a french race car? And when your ignorant friend/neighbour starts chirping about it being some silly ass foreign car you can send them to wikipedia!

Cheers,

Andrew

In the US A110 are non-existent, this is the nearest you can get to an Alpine hence the $$. Aside from them no French car has much value, take a look at the SM value's here compared to Europe. Personally considering the ages of these cars, past maintenance history is what you need to go for almost more than condition(at least with hydraulic Citroens).
Let those who don't appreciate French cars continue in their blissfull ignorance I say, they're such a different mindset from old US musclecars!

Some of the French ones had the more desirable 1565 cc hemi engine, and I've seen them fetch north of $50,000. I believe the Spanish (and other ones) had some body differences also and the fiberglass work is kinda sloppy.
The problem with all of those cars is will you fit inside ?

I had a long ride in a V85 A110 in France back in 1980, it was in the Cévennes part of the Massif Central, and:

1) yes a 6'3" person fits, and
2) even with only 82 HP, the car is a monster on tarmac.

So.. I'm 6'2"

Good to hear that it's ok for me to keep lusting after these.

I saw some mention of a company making a few kit cars of these.. that's somethign that I might consider in a few years (if it's true and a good kit).

All things being equal, I'd like to have a classic car that sees daily status during the summer.. so an A110 might be a bit out there... but hey! you gotta take what you can get.. and living in Rust Belt central doesn't help!

Cheers
