Peugeot to contest Sebring ALMS event [09/02/09 17:35]
LMS outing at Spa ahead of the Le Mans classic

A new look but a limited LMS programme

Despite today's difficult economic context, Peugeot has chosen to pursue its different motorsport activities in 2009. These range from its high profile endurance racing programme to the promotion of its products through its various single-make series. The current crisis has led Peugeot's management to seek synergies within Groupe PSA Peugeot Citroen with the appointment of Olivier Quesnel at the helm of Peugeot Sport.

Peugeot Sport suffered a huge disappointment in 2008 after coming so close to winning the Le Mans 24 Hours with the 908 HDi FAP which, even so, demonstrated its competitive potential with a score of four wins from five races in last year's Le Mans Series.

The entire team is today fully focused on this year's programme, beginning with its efforts to iron out the shortcomings that handicapped its bid for victory last year at Le Mans. These areas include optimisation of the traction control system, preventing the radiators from getting choked up and improvements to the fitment of the wheels with a view facilitating their replacement by the mechanics. Meanwhile, it has been a case of adapting the 908 to the latest ACO regulations which target a significant curbing of performance.

Quote:
The Peugeot Sport line-up features nine drivers, with the team's confidence going to the drivers who have made such a satisfactory contribution to the first two years of its current endurance programme:

Sebastien Bourdais (France), 30.
David Brabham (Australia), 43.
Marc Gené (Spain), 35.
Christian Klien (Austria), 26.
Pedro Lamy (Portugal), 37.
Nicolas Minassian (France), 36.
Franck Montagny (France), 31.
Stéphane Sarrazin (France), 33.
Alexander Wurz (Austria), 35.

The crews of the two cars for Sebring (March 21) are:
N°7 908 HDi FAP - Nicolas Minassian/Pedro Lamy/Sebastien Bourdais.
N°8 908 HDi FAP - Franck Montagny/Stéphane Sarrazin/Christian Klien.

Too bad, Villy is out. Will he get another chance for the Triple Crown?

I hope they win, but I would not be surprised to see Audi top them again.

Peugeot couldn't find big enough overalls for him

There was a on-air commentary at Le Mans race:
"Astronaut is spotted on the Peugeot pits, looks like Villeneuve's stint is coming up"

Pescarolo 'honoured' by Peugeot deal

By Gary Watkins
Friday, February 27th 2009, 14:46 GMT

Le Mans legend Henri Pescarolo has described Peugeot's decision to lend his team a Peugeot 908 HDi for this year's 24 Hours as "a real honour".
Pescarolo Sport will run the Peugeot turbodiesel prototype at Le Mans alongside one of their own revised Judd-powered LMP1s.

It's Pescarolo, not ..."loro" but yes this is good news.

The was only 20sec behind or so...still not too shabby considering Audi's performance/experience.

I think it is good to have competition like this. Audi is formidable. Peugeot kicked their asses in the World Rally Championship in 1985 and 1986, so turn about is fair play.

I enjoy a good scrap on the track between competitive teams. If my preferred team does not win, I don't think of it as "sad" but rather I look at it as having been a good and interesting competition.

A gap of 20 seconds over that distance is definitely evidence of a fierce and highly competitive event. Sounds like it was a good one!

And now with a 1-2 finish in Le Mans 2009, they can say that they are truly champions again, no matter what else happens this year.

I just hope that the team will be back in 2010 with their HDI Hybrid. It would be too easy too quit now and go home. Nevertheless, the economic reality might just force that.

In 1992, they won and returned in 1993 to defend their title, so let us hope that repeats itself.

That was true domination...even in the face of Audi which races a complete season!

Best motor race I have watched in a long time. I stayed up all night watching it, and helping my son clean a house out for someone. It was a really great time, and then Peugeot WON! Vive la Peugeot!

Excellent!

I just got back from a 4060 km tour around sunny Europe in a 207 CC HDI, very nice, especialy with the top down.

Now, how is it that you still have the biggest cheater and worst sportsman ever in F-1 as an avatar?
