My 404C resto begins!

I chopped a small bit of a finger tip off on Christmas day when peeling potatoes (!) so had to let it heal before commencing garage work. This meant the week after Xmas, which I had off as holiday, was therefore a bust for 404C work.

However, today I made the last of the new brake lines, version 2.0, and installed it. Next weekend I will attempt a bleed and hope to move onto the next stage: engine reassembly.

I may be a little out of context with this one and old school, but noticed the Mobil 1 container.
Maybe not such a good idea to use a synthetic friction modified oil for assembly and initial fill.
I use basic "cheap" unmodified oils for running in a new engine.

It was just for initial assembly. The non synthtic break-in oil will go in the sump. First break in oil will be used for an hour or so and then changed again for another. Change for regular Motul classic oil after 1600 km.

I've hit a hiccup as of last weekend. I would have sworn that I had a new set of 0.3mm oversized bearing shells for the reground crank but as I sat down next to the block in the garage to do the work of crank insertion, the bearings were nowhere to be found.

Therefore I'm now looking for a set of 0.3 mm oversized main bearings, part number 0115.88.

Or Vandervell 5M 7894 in 0.3 mm (not 0,25 mm, as my crankshaft is already ground to 0.3)

Or Glacier M 5220 in 0.3 mm...

I found a source in Germany for the original 0115.88 but they're over 200 EUR plus 50 EUR postage.
So I cleaned the gasket sealant and residues off the timing cover, sump, and (not pictured here) the aluminium timing cover specific to the Injection engine.

I hope to secure a set of 0.3 soon (any assistance welcome) because even though I have some 0.5 bearings, I would hate to regrind the crank just for that reason.
